I like my pre-pay cell phone by Net 10. I got it at Wal Mart and it's only 10 cents per minute, but sometimes you want to have a phone number without letting people like the reminder service at your Doctor's office using up your minutes. Recently I discovered Magic Jack. They are offering a 30 day free trial right now at MagicJack.com. You just plug it into your USB port and then plug a regular phone into it. Presto, zero cents per minute. For times you aren't running your computer the calls just go to voice mail and they send you an email letting you know you have a message. Skype is also cheap and you can get special Skype phones to plug into your USB port. You can get a Skype local number and voice mail pretty cheap. Check it out at Skype.com. If you are really broke and just need a voice mail where you can get messages. You can get free voice mail at Simplevoicebox.com. It's not a local number, but most people have unlimited long distance these days anyway.
